Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners' proposed 1,400 MW Capricornia Energy Hub, located approximately 80km west of Mackay near Eungella Dam. The $2.5 billion pumped hydro energy storage project features a 750 MW pump/generation facility and represents one of the largest renewable energy investments in the Greater Whitsunday region.
Construction is expected to commence after 2025, creating approximately 600 jobs during construction and 65 regional operations jobs ongoing. The project addresses the critical need for dispatchable energy storage to support Queensland's transition to 70% renewables by 2032 and 80% by 2035.
