Australia's largest sugarcane-to-ethanol producer, the Wilmar Sarina Distillery produces approximately 60 million litres of ethanol annually. The facility represents an established bioenergy presence in the region and a potential platform for newer biofuels pathways including sustainable aviation fuels.
While the distillery is operationally mature, its progression to new biofuel products is constrained by stakeholder perceptions around feedstock competition with agriculture and limited understanding of demand drivers for next-generation biofuels in aviation and shipping sectors where electrification is not viable.
Next step
Secure offtake and articulate value chain for newer biofuels.
